Achievements October 2007, he wrote a new play - 'The Woman in Me'. The production of the play followed. Abhishek Saha, a talented young actor from Bangalore was cast aptly. The play was very disturbing and by many is considered as the best of Pawan's works. Two directors, Dinesh Babu and Suri of Duniya fame saw hiw works in acting and have cast him in their films. The film are due to release by the end of 2007. Was selected for the Talent Campus 4 conducted by the Osians Film Festival, Delhi. Turned to be great expereince and learnt a lot about filmmaking from some of the masters from the industry. Later he shot a 1 min Film - ' Dreamcatcher'. It was as an entry for the competition conducted by the Ability foundation. Was very appreciated. With a real low budget and with the help of friends, Pawan shot a 25 min short film 'Beginnings and Ending'. It stared Sabreen Baker and Munish Sharma. This was a great learning experience. Year 2006 was less of productions and more of exploring new areas. After spending about 8 months with Neela Tele Films as the Executive Producer for a feature, Pawan moved on to make short films to put his new skills to test. His short film 'A Perfect Day' was chosen as one of the best 25 films at the Genesis film project. He was one of the 11 short listed applicants for the Young Achievers 2006 Awards in Karnataka. In Jan 2006, Pawan shifted base to Mumbai. The sole purpose was to do more professional theatre and also get involved in Film making and Film Acting. ‘Honey! Lets break up' raised an eyebrow of the audience and the critics for its unique presentation. It also later shocked them to know that this subtle play about relationships was written by Pawan who had just turned 23. ‘Sleuth' – some people couldn't digest it when Pawan announced that he would do 3 shows a day for 6 days with a lavish set, and would give almost a Broadway experience. This play managed to do 15 shows in 6 days with 3 shows a day. Schools sent their students for the morning shows. Sleuth also had the biggest set that any play had in Bangalore in the recent times. Pawan set another record and started another new trend. ‘What we give is what we get'. Pawan performed ‘The Final rehearsal' as a fund raiser for the ‘Heart and Soul Foundation' which homes the under privileged children. Having observed how a festival is organized, it didn't take Pawan a long time to mirror the experience. With absolutely no sponsors or any sort of financial aid, Pawan hosted a theatre festival called ‘Third Bell' focusing on the topic ‘3 Indian classics of 3 different languages performed by 3 young directors' The festival hosted a Hindi play from Mumbai. This festival was a huge success. On Jan 21, 2005 it was curfew time in Bangalore about some political – religion issue. Pawan's another experimental venture ‘Monologues' was doing its opening on the same night. This production was not very liked by the 150 odd people who with no public transport and strict alert from the police still managed to turn up for the show. The play dealt with Communal violence and was disturbing enough to disturb an audience who were expecting something entertaining. Every Bangalorean saw a reflection of his own self while watching the most popular production – Evam Indrajit. This play was suitably adapted and directed by Pawan to reach out to every member in the audience. Repeat shows were also attended by a large number of Repeat audience. Critically acclaimed, this play has been an eye opener for lot of people about their own lives. A one man production. At the beginning, Pawan was the only one person in the team to do every thing. Right from putting up poster all around the town to understanding the character. ‘The Final Rehearsal' a one man show written directed and performed by Pawan, was finally showing in Bangalore . The play which won him the Best Actor award at Thespo and innumerable words of appreciation from the masters of modern theatre in Mumbai. This play has managed to do 12 shows. Considered as a classic by a few of its fans. Theatre maestro Alyque Padamsee invited Pawan after seeing ‘The Final Rehearsal' to write for his new production ‘Penis Dialogues'. Pawan's contribution for this controversial play was not only in scripting but in lighting too. For the records, ‘The Final Rehearsal' was nominated for ‘Best Director, ‘Best play', ‘Best Production design', ‘Best original script' and ‘Best Actor'. It won Best Actor and a special prize for original script. Started a Theatre club in college called ‘Center Stage'. ‘The cause' and ‘You are your own savior' were very popular street plays. Innovative use of exterior space and music made these two plays remain in the memory of the student viewers. ‘The cause' won the best play award. 'Dinosaur' a short play developed through rehearsals won the best street play award. This play had very interesting visuals and dealt with the powerful species – man. ‘Hare and the Tortoise' a play in body theatre form with no written script is passing on from one batch of students to the next for the last 5 years. This short play has won about 12 best play awards in various competitions. Pawan's first play was when he was in his 9th grade. Though this play won an award for ‘Best Creative Presentation', the achievement is not the award but the first step taken. |
